10k To The Fells Course

Take part in our 10k to the fells course. It is an introduction to mountain/hill running for runners who can already run 10km.

This course will be an exciting adventure for anyone who wants to take their trail running to the next level. The end goal is to run the Pen Y Fan horseshoe in the Brecon Beacons. This is a 21km route which summits Fan Y Big, Cribyn, Pen Y Fan and Corn Du. 

Not many people run such a hilly route, but on this course you will get much stronger, fitter and learn to pace yourself in the mountains.

Once you complete this course, you should be fit enough to participate in almost all of our club runs and training camps.

The next course starts on the 24th of March 2022.

What Do You Get?

  • Bi-weekly meet up with the 10k To The Fells crew to fell run in the Mendips, Exmoor, Dartmoor, and the Brecon Beacons.

  • Bi-weekly local training sessions with the 10k To The Fells crew and possibly some other BTR members (on opposite weeks).

  • Make friends with your coach and other participants to boost your confidence. We will create an optional WhatsApp group to make it easier to connect.

  • 8 week training plan to follow the weekly meet up. Expect to do three more sessions on your own each week. 

  • Email support from BTR head Coach Joe Wenman

  • Discount code for free gait analysis and 15% off running shoes and anything else you need from Cotswold Outdoor & Runners Need in Bristol City Centre.

  • 1 month of free BTR premium membership after course completion (for new members only).

  • Finish the course with a group run round the Pen Y Fan Horseshoe.

Next Course Details:

Due to the nature and length of some of the sessions, we have split them between some weekday mornings (Tuesdays) and some weekend days. Here is the full schedule:

  1. 24th May, 7am-8am: Hill repetition training session at Clifton Downs.

  2. 4th June, 9am-11am: Hilly run over Wavering Down and Crooks Peak in the Mendips. Lesson: pacing on hills (we will cover approx. 500m of vertical gain in 12km of running).

  3. 7th June, 7am-8am: Tempo running training session at Clifton Downs.

  4. 18th June, 9:30am - 11:30am: 15km run over Dunkery Beacon in Exmoor. Lesson: pacing on hills.

  5. 21st June, 7am-8am: Hill repetition training session at Clifton Downs.

  6. 9th July, 9am-11am: 18km run over Yes Tor & High Willhays in Dartmoor. This is a challenging run!

  7. 17th July, 10am-12pm: 21km run around the Pen Y Fan Horseshoe.

The course will cost £135 per person or £108 per person if you book before the 10th of May (20% early bird discount).
